Course Objectives: By the end of the course, successful students will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate
an understanding of the basic operation of the job area within which they
intern.
2. Analyze the activities and skills requirements needed to serve successfully in the assigned intern area.
3. Describe in written form a key problem faced during their internship, including its resolution.
4. Make meaningful comparisons among several values – academic study and service to others and/or application in the workplace through internships.
5. Formulate a more precise understanding of career options in the assigned internship area.
6. Demonstrate a greater knowledge of the concept of public service.
Course Content and Scope: Intern positions are not clerical or secretarial in nature. The tasks interns are involved with are substantial and educationally meaningful. Interns in community organizations engage in activities that have applicability to the studentsŐ professional career objectives.
A required 5-15 page paper, dealing with a topic in depth which is related to
the internship, is due at the end of the semester. Students will work with the instructor of record in order to
see that the topic is framed properly, researched correctly, written carefully,
and handed in promptly.
Methods of Instruction: The teacher of record is the academic resource person. Field supervisors assess performance of internship duties. Required paper is evaluated by the teacher of record. Students meet with instructor on regular basis for consultation on internship progress/paper requirement.

b) Student application.
c) Student monthly report.
d) Employer evaluation.
2. Meetings with instructor of record.
3. Successful completion of internship assignment and required paper.

1. Completion of all required application/data forms.
2. Field supervisor evaluation of internship work.
3. Instructor of record evaluation of internship work and required paper.
Appropriate Texts and Supplies: Required texts/materials as determined appropriate for individual intern assignments in order to complete assigned paper.
