Catalog Course Description: Designed to give the students an opportunity to take specific in-depth and specialized courses in a variety of studio subjects which could include: ceramics, drawing, design, glassblowing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Specific subject matter will be described in the Schedule of Classes each semester.

Course Objectives: Art 119 is a one-semester one-unit course designed on the modular concept. These courses allow the department to offer a variety of studio courses that reflect current techniques, conceptual trends and student demands. These courses can be repeated with new content as a variety of subject matter is anticipated and planned. Students will learn and demonstrate mastery in a variety of specific objectives which will vary depending on the actual course content. Students will discuss, critique and evaluate their work and the work of their peers. Students will produce a body of work depending on course content.
Course Content and Scope: The content of the course is by design flexible; it will be selected and approved by the department. The direction of the course will be determined by current needs and the interests of students and faculty. Although studio work will be the primary activity, the course will include oral discussions, research, quizzes, individual and group critiques and final exam/review. The organization of the course will vary from semester to semester and instructor to instructor.
Methods of Instruction: There will be demonstrations, lectures, slide lectures, discussions, individual and group critiques. There will be gallery and museum visits when appropriate.
Required Assignments: Students will be required to do art work in class and complete the majority of their work. Students will hand in all their work at least once or twice during the semester. Students must participate in group critiques. Students will take quizzes and write up analyses of museum or gallery visits, if appropriate, and complete all technique exercises, preparation drawings and major assignments.
